The club has been awarded Charter Status in 2011 showing that behind the scenes the club is moving forward and it is hoped that this will reflect in the way the club presents itself within the area. “We want to raise our profile within the local community but we are conscious that we need to show the community that we are a very organised and serious club that hopefully, they will want to be a part of.” says Chairman Dougie Leask. “Like any club it costs a considerable amount of money to run a club, and much of that comes from the generosity of local businesses who want to support the community through advertising and sponsorship. We are still looking for sponsors for the club and would appreciate any local businesses support. Should any company be interested in being a part of their local club, please make contact with us through our website.”
Another reason for the need to bring in additional funding is that the club has this season increased in size with the addition of two new teams. A Ladies team was introduced to the club along with a Men’s Veterans team.
The ladies team came enmasse from Eastleigh Ladies, who won the Women’s Hampshire Division 1 last season. This season, playing as Locks Heath Ladies, they will be in the Southern Region Women’s Football League. They are looking to strengthen their numbers should any women out there wish to join them.
The Veterans team was the brain child of last season's Manager Jason Thomas and although stepping down from his 1st team duties, he has put his boots on to play for the veterans’ team in the Southampton Veterans League.
Locks Heath have had some good players over the years and getting them back to pull on a Locks Heath shirt again is something that should is worth going to watch. But with everything that is going on in the club, watching any of the teams this season should be something that many people should consider doing if they want to watch good players playing the game as it was meant to be played.
